If we could make a survey in the entire football community about which player should take a 90th minute free kick in a losing game, I’m 100% sure that the name of @davidbeckham would come in the three first of the list.
That’s exactly what he did in the World Cup 2002 Qualifying Group last game, England vs. Greece, by possibly scoring England most memorable goal in Modern era (we can decently open a debate with Michael Owen’s stunner against Argentina in 1998!).

In the 94th minute, his incredible equaliser sends England direct to the World Cup, avoiding his country a tricky play-off game against Ukraine, and next to that, it was Beck’s personal revenge against a lot of tabloïds, who crucified him three years before in France, because of a stupid red card…
The run-up, the arm throw at almost 360°, the swerve, the topspin and the power of the ball, make it one of the greatest free-kick I’ve ever seen. Even the celebration, with his characteristic cross was iconic(by the way, if anyone can find me this jersey of England in size M I would be forever grateful).

I could have choose a lot free kick in his career, like the one he scored against Real Madrid, in a weird atmosphere at Old Trafford, where he was in rumors saying he was about to join the Spanish team, wearing a bandage after Fergie presumably kicked out a boot in his face(!), all that in an absolute legendary game in which Ronaldo Nazario scored a hat trick…
But this is maybe for another comics cover 😉
